Presentation and Worksheets to introduce Musical Forms to children from K-3. The idea of form is presented in a simple way through many images and examples. The presentation can be completed in one teaching hour and is ideal for substitute teachers too.

The basic idea of the 1st part is to recognise the ideas of Same, Similar & Different in music. Since forms are created when combining same, similar and contrasting ideas, its very important for everyone to have this crucial ability.

Movement and play are very important in learning at these ages. Young children have to move and play listening to music and aurally recognise the changes or the repetitions between the parts of a musical work, even without knowing anything about forms and any other terminology. This has to become an essential part of our music lesson.

Adding to the experiential way to learn about forms, the 28 Worksheets deepen the understanding with visual examples (images, shapes), aural & notation examples and examples through a story. Writing rhythmic or melodic examples shouldn't be a notation issue. I suggest to play the examples and children find a musical answer to what is asked. When you're sure that children understand the basic ideas, you may ask them to create their own examples and play them to their classmates. These short ideas will lead to longer ones later on.

The Worksheets can be used throughout the whole year. It's not necessary to give them altogether! We may also reused them adding examples of more complexity according to the class's progress during the year. That's why you can find 4 empty pages to add your own examples.
