ΝEW BOOK! The Crab in his Hole

Image
Summer is over but we can keep its spirit up with a story! Meet a little Crab who loves adventures and plays with new friends. TPT link TES link                       Two fairy tales where our Crab meets other animals from the mainland and from the sea. He discovers noe things as he is open to new experiences.  The book can be read on its own by any teacher, parent or child. In each fairy tale children will also find an empty page to add an adventure of their own and draw it on the book. Μusic teachers may use this book to teach musical forms in early ages (K-3)  (Binary, Ternary, Rondo, Theme & Variations). The idea is that each adventure corresponds to a section of the music. This way children get an idea of form in music while listening to the music and dramatizing the story. The stories are accompanied by happy Greek traditional music specially recorded for the book by some of the most prominent soloists of Greek music (QR Code inside the book) and 13 pages with Educational Re

TIME SIGNATURE BINGO games

Image
Two new BINGO games for youger and older students. Realising the time signature of a piece of music is important both to musicians and dancers. These bingo games help students practice in recognising the time signature. The games also present a visualization of the time signature idea that helps deepen student's knowledge. Especially for younger students 3 kinds of visualization were chosen: the hearts (as beat is the Heart of Music), the notes (as they can see in scores) and geometric shapes (each side represents one beat).  Each game includes  1 TEACHER card 24 STUDENT cards 1 list with music suggestions from different music genres and cultures.  A perfect opportunity to have fun, learn and include our students music preferences! in TPT shop https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Simple-TIME-SIGNATURE-BINGO-7577159 in TES shop https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/resource-12615374 in TPT shop https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/TIME-SIGNATURE-BINGO-7571492 in TES sh

Safe ideas to teach music in the corona virous days!

Image
We all have read several instructions about (not) singing in the classroom, sharing instruments and playing games with our students due to the danger of spreading the COVID 19. We are deeply concerned about our students’ safety and at the same time seek for ideas to make our lesson interesting and safe (in person and in distance learning).  What about listening to excellent music?   It can never be out of a music lesson. Here are some ideas I tried to during this hard period:  Vivaldi’s "The Four Seasons"   through m y Listening Maps  offer a completely safe way to involve kids with music. Children will realize the musical form of these pieces, imagine pictures of nature, listen to different rythms and tempos , recognize string instruments , draw their own pictures on the maps, try their own melodies for these pictures of nature and more. WELCOME!

In this blog I'll share ideas about music in education. "A boat full of sounds" is the name of this Blog and of my teaching resources shop as well.  Most of my teaching experience is with children age 6-12, but many ideas can be adopted to fit the needs of other ages.  I love bringing a variety of music genres in my lessons, classical music, traditional, jazz and many others. I also love guided or free improvisation and enjoy helping children make their own music.  What will you find in this blog? My own or other people’s  ideas about all the above areas. I’d also love to be in touch with people with the same interests and get ideas from them. Meanwhile you can have a look at some resources I have published in TES and Teachers Pay Teachers websites.  TES Teachers Pay Teachers   Hope you enjoy it!  Chrysi Parpara Stay tuned for more!
